summary:

Dream House is an emotional and visually evocative short film that follows the journey of Remma (Rem), a young woman who has carried the weight of her traumatic childhood in the foster care system into adulthood. The film blends reality with surreal elements, drawing viewers into Rem's internal struggle as she attempts to reconcile with her past and find a place of true belonging.

The story unfolds as Rem encounters a mysterious sign in a cornfield, counting down the days she has remaining to enter the "Dream House"—a place that symbolizes the healing and peace she has always sought. Throughout her journey, Rem revisits painful memories: a rain-soaked car ride with a distracted caseworker, standing alone in front of yet another strange house, and moments of quiet reflection where she clings to a worn stuffed elephant, her only comfort from childhood. These memories are interwoven with her present-day struggles, such as grappling with panic attacks triggered by the trauma that still lingers just beneath the surface.

As the days tick down, Rem's journey becomes more intense, leading her to confront the darkest parts of her past, including the loss of one of her foster brothers, Martin, who appears as a comforting but fleeting presence. Her interactions with Martin and her solitary walks through picturesque neighborhoods highlight her deep longing for a home and family, something that always seemed just out of reach.

The film builds to a powerful climax when Rem, exhausted and overwhelmed, finally reaches out for help and is guided into the Dream House. It is in this moment that she begins to understand that her future is not bound by the pain of her past, but by the love and hope she chooses to embrace. Dream House is a story of resilience and healing, offering a message of hope to those who have felt lost and broken, showing that even the most fractured souls can find a place of peace and acceptance.
